Did you float the south fork? I’ve done the north fork, gnarley.

Pretty sure I've ridden on that bus. I grew up just ten miles down the road from there.

Middle Fork Friday a week ago with some church youth, then brought my family back for the same trip on Thursday. Took us six hours to get home to the Bay Area from Coloma, however, because miserable traffic. My plan is to return in the spring for a North Fork trip and gnarley.

The guides liked my raft because screaming girls.

That looks awesome! Went whitewater rafting for the first time Friday on the Oconee about two hours north of Atlanta.  It was where they did the white water stuff for the Olympics in 96. Great fun and would totally do it again even though I came home pretty bruised up.

It was a magical day for my family. Magical, but pricey. Then again, people go to places like Disneyland, where I would never go... How does an admission to DL compare to the $129 fee to raft down the Middle Fork? Middle Fork is better ROI, says I...

Fun comes in many forms.  How long did that $129 buy you? Just curious about prices.  Our thing was only $40 for two hours on class three and four rapids.  Seemed like a great deal, but we had a big group.

One of these days I WILL get my wife to agree to let me buy an old MCI bus. I hope.

Six hours and a very good lunch. Personally? I thought it was a great value. And our guide was superb, so I gave him a generous tip of about $15/person. The same activity in California may fetch a higher fee than it does in Georgia.

MCI? Big diesel pusher? WAY too much drive train for my liking. I’d rather have like an older International Harvester with their small block V8 truck engine and a modern four-speed auto and a carefully selected final drive ratio. Also, I wouldn’t want a 40-footer... Maybe even a Mini-Bird...

All that shiny aluminum just calls to me. Besides, it can jump quite a distance, if Speed is to be believed.

So I just realized that I did the middle fork with tunnel chute and the waterfalls where they push the rafts over and swim to recover them.

Old school buses have some serious potential as recreational vehicles. Some friends of mine recently bough a very well maintained bus from district near them for not much money. They’ve stripped the interior and are setting it up with kitchen, sleeping and lounge quarters in the front, and have enlarged the rear opening to fit two spec miatas in the back. I think they’re now working on some kind of collapsible (and very long) ramp set up for loading the race cars into it.

This is the Missouri version of a float trip. We did this last weekend. 6 miles, $50. Good times. Great for younger kids or people that just want to drink. When you see rapids it means you are likely to be dragging your canoe or raft through shallows.

And their bus had the top cut off and seats face the middle for a trip from the river back the the car for about 1/4 mile through the campground

Rocky Chucky. The guides told me that the pushing the rafts down and retrieving them at the bottom is old school. Mostly, now, they ride the rafts down solo while we all watch.

It would be fun to set up a camper that way. It’s a pipe dream of mine, but I’ll probably never do it.
